Hi, I'm Dawn

I'm a therapist with 35 plus years of experience across counselling, education, and coaching — and I know that reaching out takes courage.

People often come to me when something has shifted. When the coping strategies that used to work aren't working anymore. When they're carrying more than they can hold — and wondering if this is just how life is now.

It isn't.

My work is grounded in evidence-based practice and guided by genuine curiosity about your story. Together we untangle what's keeping you stuck, build the skills to navigate what's hard, and create space for something steadier to take root.

Welcome to Independence Counselling

Our Approach

Connecting

The first step is to connect. We believe that the cornerstone of successful therapy is the client-therapist relationship, so it's key that we get to know you and what you're going through.

Listening

Next, it's all about listening. The critical thing to remember here is that, as your therapist, our job is to listen to hear, rather than listening to respond. We want to help you discern where you are, and where you want to go.

Helping

Here, our role is to help you make sense of your patterns, build practical skills for navigating relationships and stress, and increase your capacity to respond

rather

than react.

Once we understand where you are and what you’re carrying,
we begin the work of change together.

Therapy is not about fixing you —
it’s about supporting you as you uncover clarity, strengthen boundaries, and create emotional room to breathe again.

What This Means for You

Therapy with Independence Counselling
is designed to help you:
Untangle what’s overwhelming so you can understand why you feel the way you do

Build emotional capacity for stress, relationships, caregiving, and daily life

Strengthen your boundaries without guilt or second-guessing

Reduce anxiety and reactivity by learning to work with, not against, your nervous system

Break long-standing patterns that keep you stuck, exhausted, or overfunctioning

You set the pace.
We guide the process.

Together,
we move toward the version of your life that feels
steadier, clearer, and more sustainable.
