About Independence Counselling

Independence Counselling is a small, intentional practice built on one core belief — that you already have the capacity to heal. Our work is to help you find it.

Founded by Dawn McKelvie Cyr and joined by her son Liam Cyr, Independence Counselling offers online therapy for individuals, couples, and families across Nova Scotia, Canada, and beyond.

We are a practice that values the therapeutic relationship above all else. That means you won't feel rushed, judged, or reduced to a presenting problem. You'll feel heard — and from there, the real work begins.

We are committed to creating a space that is compassionate, respectful, and safe for clients from all walks of life, regardless of ability, age, class, ethnicity, gender, race, or sexual orientation.

Here, you are welcome.
